Consider for a moment the bright lights of debaucherous Las Vegas, and the signs that bear them. To vacationers, the beaming bulbs signal good times ahead. But, among architects, the form of flashy commercial signage is a contentious subject.
In the discussion “Signscape Architecture,” architects and co-founders of Seattle’s Lead Pencil Studio Annie Han and Daniel Mihalyo talk with Jason Griffiths, an award-winning architect and professor. At Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, the trio will converse about the implications of selling out art – in this case architectural design – to accommodate for-profit signage.
The dialogue occurs in conjunction with “Extended Collapse,” Han and Mihalyo’s architectural installation, which is on display at SMoCA through October 16.
