Over the past 50 years, there have been walks for just about every group of people who have seen injustice or adversity. Nerds, however, found it difficult to break out of those pesky lockers. They faced an awful lot of ridicule on the playground, in the school lunchroom room and beyond, but on Saturday that all changes.
Self-proclaimed geeks (however they might mean it) will step out of mothers’ basements and IT break rooms everywhere for the inaugural PBS Nerd Walk. It’s a march to say, “We’re here, we’re nerds, and we support public television.”
It doesn’t quite have the same ring to it as other chants, but given PBS’ educational lineup, this group of brainiacs has the intellect to back it up. (It could be sillier. Imagine an MTV-hosted “guidette” walk.) They’ll band together wearing their finest stereotypical dork garb at ASU’s homecoming parade at 10 a.m. along University Drive on the north side of Tempe Campus.
