Christmas music is weird stuff. Sure, grandmas like it, but for poor souls folks manning the boards at 99.9 KEZ FM, it’s less the music of holly jollies and more a nightmare of tunes played long before (and even a little after) Christmas. DJ Fresh, who’s spinning funky breaks as part of the “How the Grouch Stole Christmas Tour” (featuring The Grouch, Zion I, and Evidence), has a remedy for the standard holiday music rut. Fresh might not sport the, uh, freshest moniker on the block, but his productions for The Grouch have featured warped ’80s funk, slow jams, and a minimal, focused grind. He’ll be backing the rappers on Wednesday, November 30, at Club Red, 2155 East University Drive in Tempe. Doors open at 8 p.m. The reprieve from endless loops of “All I Want for Christmas” is priceless, but admission is $18.
