Men may gripe about members of the so-called fairer sex spending endless hours gossiping with friends, but let’s face it: most dudes would give their right nut to find out what goes on when chicks get together (and not just because they suspect their ladies are comparing notes).

“I’d buy a comedy about women sitting around and talking before I’d buy one about men getting together,” says director Bob Sorenson, who leads a cast of five women in The Dixie Swim Club at Theater Works in Peoria. “Men do fishing trips, activities. What women have to say on their trips is way more interesting.”

If the play’s zany one-liners are any indication, Sorenson’s right. The comedy follows a group of longtime friends who reunite annually at a North Carolina beach cottage to discuss everything from sex and politics to PMS being referenced in the Bible, (“Mary rode Joseph’s ass all the way to Bethlehem.”)

Fridays-Sundays, 7:30 p.m. Starts: Jan. 20. Continues through Feb. 19, 2012
