According to the scholarly 1967 tome Singing: The Mechanism and the Technic, one of the best postures for belting out a song is to keep the “head erect, chest high, and pelvis tipped.” Such a stance could come in handy for the topless dancers participating in the weekly Stripper Karaoke session at Bottoms Up Gentlemen’s Club, 4516 North 19th Avenue, as it not only enables better airflow when singing such hits as Alannah Myles’ “Black Velvet,” but also enables patrons to better ogle their goodies.
Every Sunday, the west-side’s ecdysiast emporium features both patrons and dancers alike grabbing a microphone and belting out rock, pop, and R&B standards. And unlike most karaoke nights around town, there’s actually some great vocal work involved, and it’s usually by the strippers themselves. “We’ve had some dancers who are actually professional singers in their spare time,” says Bottoms Up manager Chuck Huus.
