Only lunkheads take seriously the rivalry between Phoenix and Tucson; two burgs with respective ups and downs as far as nightlife, culture, and sports are concerned. That said, it feels pretty good to snag an Old Pueblo mainstay like the World Fighting Federation. On May 12, the Arizona-based mixed martial arts organization will put on its eighth event, Fight at the Fields, in the Valley of the Sun.
Since 2009, the WFF has prided itself on being “the fighter’s league” and Saturday’s battles mean to live up to the title. Edgar Garcia, the 28-year-old who’s been on a post-UFC tear, taking on Patrick Dixon during one of the two co-main events. Tempe’s own Brendan Tierney will be the rising star in the other featured fight against Billy Colon, who’s also known as the Puerto Rican Assassin.
