Independent Journalism in Phoenix Needs You
We need to raise $15,000 by August 9 to support the reporting our community depends on. Reader support keeps us independent and is playing a larger role in funding local journalism and shaping what comes next. If you believe independent local journalism matters, make a contribution today.
It has not been a good month for the Arizona Diamondbacks. Injuries to key players, cold bats, and bad pitching have combined to knock the D-backs below .500. At the moment, the defending NL West champions seem more likely to finish in the cellar than as champions. The D-Backs can at least take solace in knowing that things could be worse: They could be the Milwaukee Brewers.
Like Arizona, the Brewers are in danger of slipping from first to worst. Unlike the D-Backs, however, the Brewers can’t write their poor start off to bad luck — the Brewers seem to have simply turned back into a pumpkin after last year’s Cinderella season.
