The Odd Couple premièred on Broadway in 1965. By now, entire generations haven’t even seen Felix and Oscar quibbling in TVland reruns of the ensuing sitcom. (Not to mention The New Odd Couple, starring Lamont Sanford and Detective Ron Harris, or The Oddball Couple cartoon about dog and cat roommates.)
When Neil Simon created The Female Odd Couple in 1985, it was a mild commercial success and a bonanza for community theaters, where it can be difficult to cast a non-musical with six male speaking parts. This summer’s your chance to enjoy both the ladies’ turn and the poker- and testosterone-drenched original on alternating weekends in the Actor’s Café space at Scottsdale’s Desert Stages Theatre.
Fridays, Saturdays, 7:30 p.m.; Sundays, 2 p.m. Starts: June 8. Continues through Aug. 19, 2012
