Go fly a kite, dude. No, seriously. You have no excuse for saying there’s little culture in the suburbs. Pakistani tradition has it covered, yo. For the eleventh year in a row, the Pakistan Information and Cultural Organization hosts a free Kite Festival, otherwise known as Basant Mela.
This annual festival blends colorful, custom-made kites with vendors, henna tattoo artists, music, dancers, and more at Fountain Hills’ Fountain Park. (Hey, that’s the park with the fountain!) You don’t have to be a professional kite pilot to participate. Wallet-friendly $5 kites are available on-site for all experience levels. But if you’re ready to step up your kite skills, you better bring cash to throw down with the big boys. This ain’t your grandpa’s kite festival, so prepare your spools for a day of kite flying fury.
