When nature plays the muse of the artist, the results are often stunning. We’ve seen landscapes captured by photographer Ansel Adams and botanicals portrayed by painter Georgia O’Keefe that are iconic images in the art world.

This summer, nature inspires Topia, a ballet created by Ballet Arizona’s artistic director Ib Andersen. From Tuesday, May 14, through Saturday, June 1, Andersen’s dancers will transform an 80-foot panoramic stage at the Desert Botanical Garden into a natural venue and an artistic conversation with the environment.

Topia is set to Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6. Tickets annually sell out, so nab a couple ($36 to $55) by calling 602-381-1096 or via www.ticketmaster.com. Performances start at 8 p.m. at 1201 North Galvin Parkway.

May 14-18, 8 p.m.; May 21-22, 8 p.m.; May 24-25, 8 p.m.; May 28-June 1, 8 p.m., 2013
