Keep Phoenix New Times Free
We’re aiming to raise $10,000 by April 26. Your support ensures New Times can continue watching out for you and our community. No paywall. Always accessible. Daily online and weekly in print.
As we’re already avoiding going outside during the day, instead cranking our air conditioning on full blast, there’s no arguing that Phoenix’s trademark heat has arrived. The idea of walking around the Desert Botanical Garden for a few hours might not sound that great — unless you have a personal guide who alternately fans you and spritzes you with water. But, before you put an ad up on Craigslist, take note: The garden opens its gates for after-dark exploration in the summertime.
Guests are encouraged to bring their own flashlights for self-guided tours, when they can take in the sights and sounds of the desert at night. The tours have 10 discovery stations, including destinations with desert flora, tarantulas, lizards, snakes, tortoises, toads, birds, and more.
All-ages Flashlight Tours take place Saturday, June 1, from 7 to 9 p.m. and continue through Sunday, August 31. General admission is $18 for adults. Call 480-941-1225 or visit www.dbg.org.
Thursdays, Saturdays, 7-9 p.m. Starts: May 30. Continues through Aug. 31, 2013
