Childsplay’s stage version of The Velveteen Rabbit, celebrating its 25th anniversary through Sunday, December 22, is for ages 3 and older, so the 1922 story’s weighty issues like love and loss in this life and a higher plane of existence in the next won’t be obvious downers. The play was presented annually for many years, but not recently, so kids and theater geeks alike welcome the return of the Edwardian fantasy that starts with a Christmas gift and eventually peeks at the magic that makes beloved toys real. Original music, some puppetry, and an invitation to all favorite stuffed animals to sit on their person’s lap during the show make it extra-fun.
