Almost exactly one year ago, the Harlem Globetrotters paid a visit to US Airways Center, bringing with them their zany, high-flying brand of exhibition basketball. Concessions were sold, people were entertained, and for a brief moment there was a basketball team in Phoenix worth watching, even if (spoiler alert) the games were staged. But a lot can change in 12 months.
This year’s overachieving Suns look nothing like last year’s dismal squad, and basketball seems to be alive and well at US Airways Center again. This may or may not bode well for the ‘Trotters as they dribble their way back into town, this time at Glendale’s Jobing.com Arena, 9400 West Maryland Avenue, on Saturday, February 8. Either way, the historic Harlem team does a lot of traveling for a reason. They know how to entertain, and Saturday’s show should be no exception. Tickets start at $34.35; tip-off is at 2 p.m. Visit www.harlemglobetrotters.com or call 623-772-3800 for details.
