War Horse might prominently feature puppets but it’s definitely not going to be mistaken for a kid’s show show any time soon. The National Theatre Live presentation of the National Theatre’s production of the theatrical sensation gallops in on Friday, March 14.

The acclaimed play was indeed adapted from Michael Morpurgo’s 1982 children’s novel of the same name by Nick Stafford and has since hit Broadway and continues to at London’s National Theatre. Central to War Horse is the equine character Joey — stunningly brought to life by the puppeteers of Cape Town, South Africa’s Handspring Puppet Company — and Albert, who owned the horse in his youth, attempts to bring him home from France, where he’s being used in World War I.

National Theatre Live presents National Theatre’s War Horse at at 2 p.m. at Phoenix Art Museum, 1625 North Central Avenue. Admission is $18. For more information, visit www.phxart.org or call 602-257-1212.
