Clapton, Hendrix, Page, Montgomery, Christian, Reinhardt. Don’t worry, most folks glazed over while reading the back half of that sentence. But, as jazz enthusiasts have lamented for years, guitarists Wes Montgomery, Charlie Christian, and Django Reinhardt — among others — are equally deserving of that prestigious “household name” status as their rock successors, perhaps more so. But if you share such an opinion, then you probably already know about “Exploring the Masters of Jazz Guitar.”
As part of its Summer Jazz Workshop series, downtown Phoenix’s premier Jazz hub The Nash, 110 East Roosevelt Street, is hosting a two-hour workshop with ASU jazz guitar instructor Jeff Libman, who will share his extensive knowledge on the subject, play some classic recordings, and demonstrate key concepts on the guitar. It’s kind of a no-brainer for jazz and guitar enthusiasts around town. Admission is $25 per person to the 2 p.m. event on Saturday, June 7. Visit www.thenash.org or call 602-795-0464 for details.

Will you step up to support New Times this year?
At New Times, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $15,500 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $30,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of New Times, now’s the time to give back.
