Guys and Dollars

It’s the belief of the fun folks at Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art that if you’re good (a.k.a. creative), then you should have plenty (a.k.a. some cash to take your creativity to the next level). That’s sorta the premise behind the cultural institution’s Good ‘N Plenty Awards, which are grants for Valley innovators with cool, artsy ideas.

Here’s how it works: Folks submit their ideas. Six finalists are chosen. Then, said finalists present their ideas to the community in a public event. Event attendees and a panel of judges vote on their favorites. And the winner is thereby decided.

Last year’s contest ended with Stephanie Francis, whose project, The Happy Camper, creates tongue-in-cheek Girl Scout-inspired badges for the LGBT community. This year’s finalists have some amusing ideas, too. For instance, Ashley Naftule’s proposal for The Rides of March would involve a bike tour of Shakespearean performances on the Ides of March, while Julie Akerly and Matthew Mosher’s nueBOX would create a residency program for installation and performance artists.
