No place does Día de los Muertos quite like the Desert Botanical Garden. Its 12th annual festivities begin Thursday, October 30, with the Cuisine & Culture of Día de los Muertos event from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. During this dinner and show of sorts, multimedia artist Zarco Guerrero will discuss the traditions and cultural significance of the holiday while guests enjoy an authentic meal from Rosita’s Place. Artist in residence Juan Solis, who will oversee the community mural and build an interactive altar for the weekend, will speak as well. And guests will be greeted with a margarita upon arrival. Ole! Tickets are $55 for members and $69 for the public.

The holiday continues with the Exhibition of Ofrenda, showcasing the art and meaning of the altar of offerings, and a mercado throughout the weekend. The weekend will close Sunday, November 2, with La Procesion, a community march around the garden. To learn how you can celebrate the dead at the Garden, 1201 North Galvin Parkway, and to purchase tickets, call 480-481-8188 or visit www.dgb.org.

Oct. 24-Nov. 2, 8 a.m.-8 p.m., 2014
