When it comes to urban farming, there are plenty of people who give a cluck. So many, in fact, that the Valley Permaculture Alliance has organized a home tour of sustainable proportions. Now in its sixth year, the Tour de Coops is a self-guided exploration of some of the Valley’s most home-grown green initiatives, focusing primarily on backyard chicken rearing. Participants of the tour can see custom-made coops, talk with owners about ins and outs of raising chickens, as well as meet and greet with the eco-conscious community.
The Sixth Annual Tour de Coops runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, November 8. Check-in locations are stationed at Phoenix Public Market, 721 North Central Avenue, Duck & Decanter, 1651 East Camelback Road, and Scottsdale Community Garden Club, 9000 East Chaparral Road, Scottsdale. Adult tickets are $20 online or $30 at the door. Youth tickets for those ages 11 to 15 are $10, and children 10 and under get in free.
