Arizona Theatre Company’s latest is a world première by Emmy-winning Rick Cleveland, who did a bunch of writing and producing for Six Feet Under and The West Wing. Cleveland’s new play, Five Presidents, imagines a conversation among U.S. presidents Clinton, Ford, Carter, Reagan, and George H.W. Bush before Richard Nixon’s 1994 funeral (also known as the Secret Service annual picnic). All five were really there, so maybe we’ll be hearing from Bill, Jimmy, or George about the accuracy of the script.
Understandably, the play’s cast is a total sausage-fest, but that doesn’t mean the guys aren’t seasoned professional actors and, in some cases, quirkily interesting. For example, Jeff Steitzer, who plays Gerald Ford, is also the multiplayer Announcer in Halo.
