Talk to Louis Dolgoff for a moment or two and you’ll understand what a busy guy he is. He’s working on a beer pairing television show for PBS. He continues to orchestrate several ornate, beer-tasting dinners all over the country for Dogfish Head Brewing and then there’s his latest venture: a foundation dedicated to fighting brain cancer.
Created in memory of Dolgoff’s wife, who lost the battle with cancer last year, the Beer For Brains Foundation is a philanthropic group of craft brewers hoping to put and end to to brain cancer with beer-related charity events. Events, Dolgoff says, that are nothing like the beer festivals you may be used to.
The foundation’s first event, dubbed the “Off-Centered Experience,” is going down on Saturday, October 2 at the Scottsdale Plaza Resort. Dolgoff says, “It’s going to be like you went to the great wedding in the world.”
For a charity donation of $75, attendees can expect more beer than you can shake a frosted mug at including kegs from breweries usually unavailable in Arizona. Dogfish Head Brewing, Port Brewing, Stone, Founders, Three Floyds, Devil’s Back Bone, NOLA and many, many more breweries are shipping kegs of their best. Between brews, a “Mid-Atlantic Feast” consisting of Maryland crab cakes, steamed shrimp and philly cheese steaks are available for noshing.
