West Valley residents have a new spot for coffee as of last month, and this week they welcomed an adjoining urban bistro to the ‘hood.
Courtesy of husband-and-wife team Steve and Karen Maynard, the new cafe, called Tempo Urban Bistro and Coffee, opened Wednesday, October 9, at 21067 West Main Street in Buckeye. That puts them in the heart of Verrado, a master-planned community about 25 miles west of downtown Phoenix.
“We chose the name ‘Tempo’ for multiple reasons,” says Steve Maynard. “Our food, service, and décor will be based on our brand as a contemporary urban bistro. Tempo is not only the heart of the word contemporary; it represents the rhythm and beat. We want to be that beat on Main Street.”
Steve, a chef who has worked in other local restaurants, has crafted a “fine dining menu that will offer an inspired lunch and dinner experience.” The menu will also feature fresh produce from local farmers.

Karen handled the design side of the build out, using her experience as an executive with Macerich, one of the largest owners of regional and community shopping centers in the United States.
The coffee bar will be open daily from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., while the bistro will be open for lunch from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and dinner from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday. On Friday and Saturday, nights the bistro will be open until 10 p.m.
