Yesterday we met April Lohrenz, the babe at Tempe’s Spitfire Grill and Tavern who’s also a swim instructor. And a dental hygiene student. And a mom. Today she shares with us the recipe for her Lemon Drop martini, which she developed after having the drink botched by nearly every bartender who made it for her.

“My Lemon Drop is my specialty drink,” Lohrenz says. “People love it. I think it’s because I’ve sent so many back in the past that I just wanted to make it something that wasn’t too sweet and is refreshing. Don’t just squeeze, the lemons — throw them in the shaker with everything else. It really makes the difference. “

The ingredients:
1.5 oz. Absolut Citron
½ oz Triple Sec
1 sugar packet
Splash sweet & sour
Lemon slices

How to make it:
Pour vodka, triple sec, sweet & sour and half the sugar packet into an ice-filled shaker. Squeeze several lemon slices and toss them into the shaker as well. Shake very well. Strain and serve in a chilled martini glass, using the remaining sugar to dust the rim. Enjoy.
