The last time we checked in with Karl and Christine Boerner, the father-daughter duo behind Sunnyslope’s Karl’s Quality Bakery, the owners had secured a new location and were launching an Indiegogo campaign to raise money to get things up and running.
That was back in January and though the Boerners only raised $6,425 of their $23,000 Indiegogo goal, they were able to open the doors at 111 East Dunlap Suite 13 earlier this month.

The new Karl’s Quality Bakery is located inside The Marketplace at Central. The space is about 500 square feet smaller than the old spot that contained both Karl’s Quality Bakery and The Baker’s Daughter. Inside the bright space there’s a row of pastry cases displaying fresh doughnuts, fritters, turnovers, brownies, chocolate dipped strawberries, and more. And behind that you’ll see racks filled with freshly made breads and full tarts.
The bakery is already offering the same menu of pastries, breads, and other baked goods they served at the original location for some 20 years. But for now Christine hasn’t been able to start offering the handmade chocolates she sold next-door at The Bakers Daughter. She says she’ll start again once they’ve settled into the new space.
Karl Boener says the bakery has been busy so far with many of the bakery’s old customers coming to see the new space. The bakery was closed for about seven months after the Boerners were given just ten days to vacate the location they had occupied for more than 20 years.
