It’s not often that restauranteurs and chefs actually hit their expected opening date. But in this case the promise that The Revival would open its doors on Tuesday, July 1 was actually true.
The new restaurant, formerly Mucho Gusto in Tempe, comes courtesy of chef Kelly Fletcher and restaurant partner Chad Withycombe.
It’s been less than a month since Mucho Gusto closed its doors for good on Saturday, June 7 to undergo a full renovation. The physical remake coincides with the restaurant’s transformation from its modern, upscale Mexican restaurant past into an eclectic restaurant with internationally inspired fare. As of today The Revival is open and serving lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch to Tempe diners.

In February of this year Fletcher left House of Tricks, also in Tempe, where he had served as executive chef for more than a decade. At that time he also announced plans to open his own restaurant in the Tempe neighborhood, though it wasn’t until last month that he and Withycombe revealed their plans for The Revival.
In addition to the menus of sharable plates, salads, and entrees (check them out on the next page), The Revival also offers a wine program headed up by well-known Valley sommelier Dave Johnson. Look for a menu that includes mostly Old World and California wines with glasses ranging from $5 to $12. Bottles start at $20 and top out at around $70.
The physical changes to the restaurant include new paint, copper and tin tables, and mix-n-matched lighting fixtures. On the patio look for strings of Edison bulbs draped over boxed vegetable gardens and reclaimed barnwood tables.
