The years might be creeping up on us, but we still have the youth, fun, and exuberance embodied by the Trunk Space, the art gallery/performance venue that recently turned 5. For a half-decade, co-owners Stephanie Carrico and JRC have kept the good times rolling in downtown Phoenix, drawing on a community of local artists, musicians, and touring acts such as indie-music luminary Kimya Dawson and the 999 Eyes Circus Sideshow to enlighten and entertain. Says JRC, “It is a testament to the dedicated creative people we work with, and the community that supports us, that we have been able to grow and pursue our mission.”
At 6 p.m. Friday, April 17, the Trunk Space 5th Anniversary Party goes down at 1506 Grand Avenue. Highlights include an art show curated by Frances Michelle Lopez and featuring works by Arizona’s Jayme Philip Lemperle and Landon Manucci and Oakland’s Jon Carling; a screening of the Phoenix-centric documentary Hi My Name Is Ryan; music by touring punker Kepi Ghoulie; and possibly a bouncy castle.
