Independent Journalism in Phoenix Needs You

We need to raise $15,000 by August 9 to support the reporting our community depends on. Reader support keeps us independent and is playing a larger role in funding local journalism and shaping what comes next. If you believe independent local journalism matters, make a contribution today.

$15,000

In the pantheon of superstar DJs, A-Trak is decidedly A-list. Kidrobot just released a vinyl figure dedicated to the 27-year-old’s likeness (albeit as an anthropomorphized polar bear), his remixes of Sébastien Tellier and Boys Noize tracks have been major club hits, and he dropped two killer albums earlier this year, including an edition of the bi-monthly Fabriclive mix series. Until recently, the Montreal-born turntable prodigy (who won the DMC, ITF, and Vestax championships before he turned 18) also served as Kanye’s touring DJ, reportedly giving up his duties as Mr. West’s personal beat-juggler in order to devote more time to running Fools Gold Records. One of the artists he’s been working with on said label is disco-house artist Treasure Fingers, who’s also coming along on A-Trak’s 10,000 lb. Hamburger Tour, which hits Club Red, 2155 East University Drive in Tempe, on Monday, July 13. Baltimore rap wunderkind (and M.I.A. protégé) Rye Rye will also perform, as will Fashen and D-JR. The 18-and-over event gets going at 10:30 p.m. and admission is $10 in advance, $12 at the door. Visit www.universatilemusic.com.
