It’s seems unlikely that Valley residents are unfamiliar with Soulfly. After all, the band is fronted by a longtime Phoenix resident, Max Cavalera, and has been rocking out and destroying eardrums for 13 years. Just take a look at the track list on the band’s latest album Omen: “Bloodbath & Beyond,” “Lethal Injection,” “Off with Their Heads,” and “Mega-Doom.” No, they are not ironic. The music of Soulfly is the kind of thrash metal that, under the right circumstances, can melt your face off. It’s loud, it’s fast, it’s heavy, and it’s everything fans have come to expect from someone with a legacy the likes of Cavalera’s. And though most fans are still hoping for a reunion of Cavalera and his former band Sepultura, that doesn’t seem to be happening anytime soon. But the good news is that Soulfly doesn’t show any signs of slowing down. They appear to have enough metal left in them to inspire mosh pits for years to come.
