Many a high jinks-filled road trip has been prefaced with the old axiom that getting there is half the fun. That certainly rings true for the shepherds trekking to catch a glimpse of the newborn baby Jesus in Cultural Coalition’s La Pastorela AriSonora. In the classic Latino retelling of the journey to Bethlehem, El Diablo (that is, Old Scratch) acts as both narrator and distractor of said protagonists. La Pastorela flips the script, bilingual-style, so that gabachos can leave their Spanish-English dictionaries at home.
