Independent Journalism in Phoenix Needs You
We need to raise $15,000 by August 9 to support the reporting our community depends on. Reader support keeps us independent and is playing a larger role in funding local journalism and shaping what comes next. If you believe independent local journalism matters, make a contribution today.
Anyone who’s survived a few Phoenix summers recognizes that there’s a subtle linguistic thing going on with the phrase “under the stars.” Many arts groups fall back on it this time of year, but no one’s trying to fool you. They’re just doing the semantic shuffle to tempt you from your hermetically sealed environments (home, car, office). It’s kinda noble, really. Let’s try it out with, oh, Concerts Under the Stars, shall we?
Here goes: Concerts Under the Stars. Mmmm. Refreshing.
Now: Concerts Held Outdoors in Heinous Killer Heat. Right. Exactly.
The cooler-than-it-sounds annual series kicks off with a jazz show by the Jacob Koller Duet.
