One dollar for a full lunch? Consider it food for thought.

A mere buck is the farmers’ and ranchers’ share of the cost of the ingredients that go into the meal served at the annual Arizona Agricultural Day, which takes place this Saturday, March 7, at Superstition Farm in Mesa. Get a look at the menu, which will be prepared by Tapino’s chef James Porter and students from the Scottsdale Culinary Institute:

Sandwich
Slow Roasted Beef with Horseradish Sauce
or
Braised BBQ Pulled Pork
*****
Arizona Ranch Style Baked Beans
*****
Creamy Coleslaw Salad with Local Herbs
*****
Honey & Rosemary Glazed Carrots
*****
Hickman’s “El Diablo Huevos”
*****
Arizona Orange
*****
Chocolate Chip Cookie & Honey Stick
*****

While the cheap eats are sure to be a draw, the event will have plenty more action — hay rides, contests, animal displays, educational booths, live music, vendors, and more. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (or until supplies run out); the full event runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and admission is $2 or three cans of food (free for kids 12 and under). Superstition Farm is located at 3442 S. Hawes Road in Mesa.
