Are there any Gin Blossoms fans in the house? Of course there are, seeing as how Phoenix is the last city in the world to have a thriving ´90s alternative-Americana scene in the new millennium. The sound that put Tempe on the map lives on in Gin Blossoms-turned-Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers guitarist Scott Johnson, who’s celebrating the release of his first solo album.
Johnson’s self-titled release is exactly what you’d expect (and want) from a musician with his background, from the jangly Gin Blossoms guitar style of “Stop” to the poppier, more contemporary sound of “I Think I’m In,” which even features female backing vocals. Celebrate the past, and what will hopefully be a bright new future, by joining what will surely be a horde of other longtime AZ musicians for Scott’s (Scotty if you know him) release party.
The Persuaders, Sam Marcus, and “special guests” share the bill.
