For the longest time, foodies scratched their heads in amazement that Phoenix didn’t have its own Restaurant Week, a popular annual event in other cities that entices people to explore local restaurants with special prix fixe menus offered just for the occasion. Then the long-awaited Arizona Restaurant Week debuted last fall, with nearly 100 participating restaurants — not bad for the first go ’round.

Now the word’s out that this year’s installment will take place September 19 to 26, and will also include Tucson eateries as well as participants from the Valley.

I’ll be curious to see how this one plays out, not only because of the rough economy, but because prix fixe menus have lately so popular that everybody’s putting them into regular rotation. Lon’s, Elements, Fine’s Cellar, Tapino, Trader Vics, and Fleming’s are just a few examples.
