Hungry for your early morning serving of food news, with no preservatives or additives?

Super Citrus Saturday!

It’s that time of year, folks. Citrus season. We know you all have at least one tree that is overflowing with sweet oranges or maybe you are lucky enough to have a tree full of giant grapefruit.

Giant grapefruit you will never eat and oranges that will inevitably rot on the ground.

Don’t let all that citrus go to waste this year. Do something good for the community, pack it up and give it to someone who wants it (p.s., that someone is not your neighbor). This Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., donate all of your unwanted citrus to St. Mary’s Food Bank for Super Citrus Saturday! St. Mary’s will have three locations set up around the Valley:

 *North
Phoenix Baptist
Church
(Central Avenue and Bethany Home Road)

*Shepherd of the Hills United Church (56th
Street and Lafayette)

 *St. Mary’s Food Bank,
Surprise
(13050 W. Elm Street
in Surprise).

Last year, they collected almost 2 million pounds of citrus that filled three warehouses and was traded with other states for potatoes, plums and apples. Donations are tax deductible and warm fuzzy feelings are free.

Oh So Healthy Soup
Let’s be honest, cauliflower soup sounds less then appetizing. It’s good though, we swear!  We took The Family Kitchen’s recipe for Creamy Cauliflower Soup and gave it a little kick with the addition of one small jalapeno. We also left out the pancetta to make it super healthy, less then 150 calories in a bowl and virtually fat free. You could eat this stuff all day guilt free!
