Beauty Lab: Cookin’ up good looks in nature’s pharmacy.
Stupid showers. According to Kym Douglas and Cindy Pearlman, beauty experts and authors of The Beauty Cookbook, they’re one of the reasons (along with others, like doing dishes and pollution) our hands look like they’ve zapped one too many flying monkeys.
The fix? A quick recipe you can do as a treat for your hands. That is, if a treat to you means a soy-soaked slumber party prank.

– 1 bowl of warm water
– 1/2 cup of soy milk
– 1 cap full of bubble bath or liquid soap in some yummy flavor
Place the cap full of bubble bath on the bottom of the bowl, then fill with warm water. Heat the soy milk in the microwave to take the chill off, add to the water, and soak your hands for 10 minutes. Afterward, apply your favorite moisturizer to your hands while they’re still a little wet.
Prepare for these two pitfalls:
1.) You’re about to sit down, close your eyes, and relax by soaking your hands in warm water. If this doesn’t sound like a fourth-grade slumber party prank waiting to happen, you’re a tool of the sleepover prank industry. Skip to the loo first.
2.) Three words: Soy milk, ew. If you’re into soy milk, hooray, have a glass post-hand-soak with a soy-licious hot dog in a gluten-free bun. The rest of us should buy the smallest carton available and go out for a burger and shake afterward.
The result:
Fair. While your hands feel more silky thanks to the antioxidants in the soy, I’m not sure how much skin-glowing is really going on. At any rate, it was a good excuse to sit still for 10 minutes, relax, and ponder what to do with the rest of the soy milk. Here kitty, kitty?
