If you want to know “How to Write the Great American Indian Novel,” you might want to turn to Sherman Alexie. The award-winning poet, author, and screenwriter best known for his personal portrayal of native American culture in society will be making a visit to Scottsdale Community College on Thursday, September 18, as part of the school’s ongoing American Indian Program speaker series.

Since his early days growing up on the Spokane Indian Reservation, Alexie has witnessed and documented the lives of contemporary native Americans. Over nearly 20 years in the literary spotlight, Alexie has published more than 25 works, starting with the fiction novel and Booklist’s Editors Choice Award-winner, Reservation Blues and most recently the short story collection and National Book award-winner, Blasphemy.
Alexie’s presentation begins at 6 p.m. inside Scottsdale Community College’s North Gym. This free and public talk will be followed by a Q&A and book signing with the audience. For more information, visit www.scottsdalecc.edu.
