Glendale resident and American Idol winner Jordin Sparks has received a Grammy nomination for her song “No Air.” The song, nominated for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals, is a duet with R&B singer Chris Brown. It’s also the first of two (thus far) top 10 Billboard hits for Sparks — the other being “Tattoo.” Both songs are from her self-titled debut album, released this year on Jive Records.
The Grammy nomination is Sparks’ first.
Other Valley artists nominated for Grammys this year are Black Lodge, Northern Cree, and Kevin Yazzie, all signed to Phoenix label Canyon Records, and all nominated in the same category, Best Native American Music Album. The Phoenix Chorale also received four Grammy nominations, all in Classical music categories.
The Grammy ceremony takes place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on February 8. — Niki D’Andrea
