Independent Journalism in Phoenix Needs You
We need to raise $15,000 by August 9 to support the reporting our community depends on. Reader support keeps us independent and is playing a larger role in funding local journalism and shaping what comes next. If you believe independent local journalism matters, make a contribution today.
The International Pop Overthrow is coming to Phoenix.
What’s that? You haven’t heard of International Pop Overthrow before this? Don’t worry, neither had I and I’m a) a music critic and b) someone with a softspot for indie pop.
Still, this plucky little multi-city indie festival seems pretty cool, and will be expanding to Phoenix on March 6-8, according to the IPO MySpace. According to local music blog Waved Rumor, which is run by DFactor, who has played the NYC version of the fest for the last three years, it’s scheduled to happen within those famous metallic walls of Hollywood Alley, where everything sounds like it’s played in an uninsallated garage.
In my quick perusal of the bands that’ve played the fest I’ve yet to turn up any real gems, but I’m certain they’ll have a few alumni hit it big, if only becasue of sheer volume. No Phoenix bands have been announced yet but Waved Rumor tells you where to send your stuff to submit. –Martin Cizmar
