When I interviewed Stephen Steinbrink and Christian Filardo for this a column in this week’s paper about Kickstarter, I had no idea that they had teamed up for Condensed Nothing, a new cassette from Steinbrink issued on Filardo’s Holy Page Records label.

Drawing on recordings made between December 5-23, the cassette represents the three recording from Steinbrink in just under a year, following Rennett, and Desert Wasn’t Welcome, which is to say, the guy records an awful lot.

If you’re a follower of Steinbrink’s music, you know what to expect — flowing, oddly tuned electric guitars, funky accompaniment, and Steinbrink’s singular voice. You can listen to the song beyond the jump.

Condensed Nothing
finds Steinbrink in a distinctly pop-focused mode (pretty much a given when Culture Club is mentioned in promo materials), with plenty of piano to help give the proceedings a kind of stately, lonesome feel.

The record comes just as Steinbrink heads out a short tour with Key Losers.
