$10,000

Maxine Johnson is something of an RnB legend in Phoenix, and she’s got the resume to prove it, having worked with everyone from Wayne Newton and Diana Ross to Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong. Johnson is known for her big voice, which can regularly be heard at juke joints around the Valley, like Char’s Has the Blues and the Rhythm Room.

Recently, Johnson suffered a stroke. The blues community didn’t take it the news lying down: Blues Ratio will be hosting a benefit jam at VFW Post 1710 on Sunday, September 4, to help offset the cost of Johnson’s medical bills.

A donation of $10 is requested, and don’t be surprised if other Phoenix-based RnB and blues players show up for unannounced jams.
