Have any extra cardboard lying around? Give a ring to the members of local hip-hop dance collective Dynamic Rockers a ring, since they’re probably gonna need plenty Saturday’s Street Culture Jam dance competition, which takes place at the Party Pit.

Breakdancers and b-boys will likely pull off all kinds of gravity-defying urban dance moves on the aforementioned packing material for cash and prizes at the event, so expect to see plenty of helicopters, flying lotuses, hip twists, and hanging airbabies.

In addition to a one-on-one popping and locking competition (winner takes home $200),
the Street Culture Jam will feature an old fashioned “Breakin’ Battle
where teams of three dancers square off against each other. Local b-boy
superstars like House from Furious Styles Crew and Thorough from Soul
Shifters
will judge the competition and hand out a grand
prize: A trip to New York City to compete in the B-Boy Massacre in May.

Check out the video below, which contains footage from last year’s b-boy massacre, and see what we mean.

Graffiti art and live painting will also take place, as will an emcee battle set to classic beats for cash prizes. DJs Tok Sik and Cre-One will also be in the mix.

The Party Pit is located at 3241 West Thomas Road. Doors open at 1 p.m. and admission is $10. Entry fees vary. Call 623-915-4636 for more info.
