Danny Zelisko’s name should be a familiar one to Valley music fans. The promoter has been putting on shows in Arizona since 1974, and hosts The Regular Radio Guy program on 93.3 KDKB every Sunday night.
Zelisko announced the end of his relationship with Live Nation and his production company, Evening Star, back in February, and recently announced his first two shows under the Danny Zelisko Presents banner: Return to Forever IV (featuring Chick Corea, Stanley Clarke, Lenny White, violinist Jean Luc Ponty, guitarist Frank Gamble, and more) at Mesa Arts Center on September 17, and The Music Box (performing Genesis’ album The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway) at The Orpheum Theater, on October, 22.
Return to Forever IV are jazz-fusion legends, and Zelisko’s involvement with the genre stretches all the way back to the first gigs he promoted in Arizona, Mahavishnu Orchestra and Herbie Hancock & The Headhunters.
Corea, Clark, and White are set to release Forever, a two disc set, on June 7, 2011. Disc one focuses on live sets by the trio, while the second disc features recordings by Corea, Clarke, and White in rehearsal with Chaka Khan, Jean-Luc Ponty and the original Return to Forever guitarist, Bill Connors.
The Music Box perform the music of Genesis, specially the band’s 1974 record, The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, which the band purchased the rights to perform from Peter Gabriel and Genesis. In addition to the music, the band stages a recreation of the original album tour, utilizing costumes, props, and effects.
