It’s been almost three months since Latin-reggae-punk-rock troupe Fayuca dropped its stellar new record, Barrio Sideshow. During that time, the band has spread its sound on the radio airwaves and touring circuit, but now the local boys are gearing up to take over dorm room television sets.

Following fellow locals like the New F-O’s and Super Stereo, a Fayuca music video is now getting turns on the television network formerly known for music videos.

On Monday, July 29, the band’s video for the lead single, “Por Que Seguir,” debuted on MTVu. The 24-hour television channel targets college and university campuses across the country with programs like The Freshmen, which showcases new music videos and lets viewers vote on which bands make it into regular rotation.

For this round of The Freshman, Fayuca is going head to head with Computer Jay, Jagwar Ma, Maya Jane Coles and Tess Druckenmiller, and the trio is dressed for battle. For the self-described “anthem to the oppressed,” all three dudes don vibrant luchador masks in a dark and stylish production by directors Frank Thomas and Pedro Perez.

Viewers have until Friday, August 9, to vote on which act will make the cut. You can help the local crew with your vote here.
