Yesterday, news of American Idol winner Jordin Sparks’ throat injury was all over the Internet, along with speculation that the 18 year-old Phoenix resident might never sing again. Initially, media were unable to reach Sparks, her family, or her management for comment, prompting fears that the injury was serious and possibly “career-threatening.”
Jordin Sparks hopes to return to performing in May.
But Roger Widynowski, Vice President of Music and TV Publicity for Sparks’ management company, 19 Entertainment, gave New Times the following comment last night: “Jordin is under her doctor’s care and is day to day. She is very eager to return to the Alicia Keys tour as soon as possible.”

Sparks has “an acute vocal cord hemorrhage” that will keep her sidelined for the rest of April. The injury caused Sparks to cancel a Penn State concert and an Earth Day show in Washington, D.C. on Sunday, and will also keep her off the first leg of the Alicia Keys tour, which Sparks was set to open.
In a statement sent to the Associated Press, a spokeswoman for Sparks’ label, Jive Records, stated: “All of her April activities have been postponed or canceled so she can take care of her voice properly…Jordin Sparks is on vocal rest and is expected to make a full and complete recovery. Sparks has been going nonstop over the past two years and now she’s going through the normal course of learning how to manage and care for her voice.”
