The second the summer said adios, a new weekly ritual took over the Cycle Cycling Team (of one): henceforth, every Sunday’s ride would include time in South Mountain Park.
Since its inception, Cycle has proclaimed South Mountain as the Valley’s ultimate cycling playground, so why not enjoy the nation’s largest municipal park before dipping our toes into a new week? And while we’re there, we’re grabbing at least one photo along the way.
And like South Mountain Park, this two-wheeled Sunday observance is open to everyone so Jackalope Ranch has created a depository, a gallery of the people if you will, to share your South Mountain Sundays photos with the rest of us.

The photos can be of anything: the view from the top, the view from the bottom, a rattlesnake stretched across the roadway or a Gila monster perched on a boulder. Whatever catches your eye while enjoying the amazing challenges and scenery on display throughout our grand park, from Summit Road to Desert Classic Trail.
To display the South Mountain Sundays photos, Jackalope Ranch created a special Facebook page. Just go into the photos section and add your shot of the ride, making sure to credit yourself in the photo comments and location tag where the pic was captured.
South Mountain Park always invites cyclists of any level, no matter if your preference is for the blacktop or the singletrack. Advanced roadies push to the TV towers either hoping to best their personal record or see how many trips to the summit can be made. Newbies head to San Juan Road, a seven miles length closed to autos throughout the month save for one day.
Mountain bikers can cut their teeth on the fire road that heads into the park from the Pima Canyon Trailhead and progress on to trail loops around the Ahwatukee edge before considering the technical challenges of National, Javalina and Ridgeline Trails.
And don’t forget to take full advantage of Silent Sundays in the park where every forth Sunday of every month the park is closed to all motorized vehicles, making for nothing but bicycle bliss throughout the entire park.
So get out there, enjoy the ride and post your picture that best captures the day’s events.
