The Word of the Day deal is the best bar buy we’ve discovered in a while. The cool and kitschy Hula’s Modern TIki combines two-for-one fruity drinks, Dr. Funk, and 1950s style for a Thursday worth checking Facebook for.

The Time: Every Thursday, 6 to 11 p.m.
The Parking: Lot.
The Bar: After a short search of Facebook or Twitter for that Thursday’s retro-themed code word (last week’s was shag rug), Hula’s Modern TIki offers up two-for-one fresh and fruity Dr. Funks and Pink Bikinis. Both drinks were sweet, but the Pink Bikini went to another level. It tasted exactly like a watermelon Jolly Rancher.
The Music: Retro rock radio from surf to The Stones.
The People: A slapdash smattering of the old, the young, the hip, and the not.
The Style: A classier Bikini Lounge teeming with tons of tikis and totems.

What we loved: We loved the drink special, but Hula’s Modern TIki also combines the best parts of Tiki bars, both present and past. The modern vibe, original architecture, and 1950s style combine in a way that really live up to the term modern tiki.
What we didn’t love: Two-for-one drinks are too good for a 10 p.m. close time.
Are we going back? Yes, we already wish it was Thursday night again.
