If the late Carl Sagan is gazing down on all of us from his beloved cosmos then he’ll have plenty of spellbound admirers looking back at him during Summer Stargazing and Music from Outer Space.
Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art hosts the event in conjunction with its summer show, “This Is A Present from a Small And Distant World.”
On view through Sunday, October 7, it’s a modern day response to 1977’s Golden Record, a proverbial bottle NASA launched into the cosmic ocean to provide future spacefarers with a time capsule of earth.

Assistant curator Claire Carter will lead a tour through the multimedia exhibit, created by visual artist collaborative New Catalogue in cahoots with renowned Brooklyn based composer Judd Goldstein, at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 12.
The empyreal immersion continues with a live performance from pianist Erin Hales and a discussion of the music with ethnomusicologist Chad Hamill.Finally, equipped with a map to ASU’s astronomy center, earthly attendees will head to Tempe to cap the evening with stargazing.
