Arizona Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt is smack-dab in the middle of a game of musical quarterbacks — and he loses almost every time the music stops.
Whisenhunt announced this morning that Derek Anderson will make the start at quarterback for the Cards when they head to Minnesota to take on the Vikings this Sunday.
After giving Matt Leinart, the one-time heir-apparent to Kurt Warner, the boot, Anderson was pegged as the team’s starter. That quickly changed after four unimpressive starts.
Anderson was unable to consistently hit his receivers, most notably
Larry Fitzgerald, who seemed to be the target of Anderson’s most
inaccurate throws.
Whisenhunt benched Anderson four weeks into the season and named undrafted rookie Max Hall as the team’s starter.
Hall was equally atrocious.
Hall started three games for the Cards, and completed only 37 of 73
passes. Only one of them was for a touchdown as the team went 1-2 with
Hall at the helm.
Both quarterbacks played in Sunday’s loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and they each played awful.
After throwing his first NFL touchdown, Hall threw two interceptions that were each returned for touchdowns.
Having seen enough, Whisenhunt gave Anderson another stab at it, which seemed to be going well…at first.
Anderson brought the Cardinals back from a 31-14 deficit to give them a 35-31 lead early in the fourth quarter.
The Bucs then scored a go-ahead touchdown and Anderson threw two
interceptions, including one that happened when the offense was within field goal range, with the Cards
down three.
The quarterback situation in Glendale is dire — and we’ve got a feeling
