Today in Found at the Border: Pot-smugglers are now short $1.2 million worth of product after trying to hide their stash in a load of jalapeños.
This is hardly surprising, as the pot-in-the-jalapeños plot is one of the oldest tricks in the book of Mexican drug-smuggling.

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the 50-year-old Mexican truck driver had a load of pot totaling more than 2,400 pounds he tried to bring through Nogales on Wednesday. A drug-sniffing dog did him in, according to the agency.
Perhaps there’s some sort of theory going around the drug-smuggling community that dogs will get confused by the scent of peppers, which obviously isn’t true.
We’ve documented several cases of people trying to hide pot or other drugs in shipments of jalapeños (example 1, example 2), bell peppers, and even a guy who tried to get himself over the border by hopping into a pile of chili peppers.
