As we reported yesterday, local independent radio station KWSS 106.7 FM has gone off air, but the station’s still streaming online at kwss.org.
Representatives of the station are not making any “official” comments at this time as to why they’re presently not on terrestrial radio, but are expected to go on record about the situation soon.
In the meantime, KWSS 106.7 has announced a benefit show. The purpose of the show, according to KWSS deejay Beef (who hosts The Morning Infidelity show), is to raise both funds and awareness for the struggling station. All the local bands on the bill have been featured on the station’s top five countdowns: The Love Me Nots, Peachcake, Banana Gun, and Kongos. The show takes place Saturday, July 30, at 910 Live, and costs $10 for general admission. But if you mention KWSS or The Morning Infidelity at the door, admission costs just $5.
While the future of KWSS going back on the FM dial is uncertain, Beef says he’s been enjoying hosting TMI on the Internet, free from the confines of FM radio. “Today was pretty fun and a little bit free,” he says. “A lot of people tuned in — our online audience numbers were larger than before. We can be more creative with our language and talk off-the-cuff.”
