Attorney Mark Hummels “Will Not Survive” Shooting, According to Law Firm

Mark Hummels, an attorney who was shot yesterday in the Phoenix office-building shooting, “will not survive,” according to his law firm.

“Our friend and partner, Mark Hummels, was severely injured in yesterday’s senseless shooting,” a statement from the Osborn Maledon law firm says. “We have been informed that Mark will not survive from the shooting.”

Hummels and businessman Steve Singer were in a mediation conference yesterday, regarding a lawsuit involving 70-year-old Arthur Harmon, and Harmon ended up shooting at the men at a Phoenix office building.

Singer died yesterday, and according to Osborn Maledon, Hummels won’t survive either. The third person shot, Nichole Hampton, was shot in the hand, but was expected to be released from the hospital today.

Osborn Maledon describes Singer in the statement as a “long‐time friend and client.”

“The loss of Mark and Steve in any circumstances would be a tragedy,” the statement says. “For this to happen to them, while participating in a mediation, is beyond understanding, a terrible loss for us all.”

Harmon ended up getting away from the scene after the shooting, but his body was found in Mesa this morning, and it looks like he shot himself, according to the cops.

Additionally, the Associated Press has discovered what the lawsuit was all about — a contract to refurbish office cubicles:

“[Singer’s company,] Fusion [Contact Centers] said Harmon was paid nearly $30,000 under the $47,000 contract,” according to the AP report. “But the company asked him to repay much of the money when it discovered that the cubicles could not be refurbished, according to the documents.”

Harmon was trying to get the remaining $17,000 or so from the contract.
